What fog lights are for
Fog lights sit low on the bumper and throw a wide, flat beam close to the car. They light the road edge and the surface just ahead, underneath the mist or spray that bounces headlight beams back at you.
The case for yellow
Many drivers find yellow light easier on the eyes in heavy rain, mist and dust, because it seems to produce less glare coming back off the weather. That is why yellow fog lights stay popular on roads with a lot of bad-weather driving.
The case for white
White matches modern headlights and looks cleaner on most cars. A good white fog light, aimed low, does the same job.
What matters more than colour
Aim and beam shape. A fog light pointed too high dazzles other drivers and lights the fog, not the road. We aim them after fitting.
